DS SKILZ DRILL 02: INTRODUCTION

It’s been nearly three months since the last VCDS ride, so I thought we would ease back into the process with a BAP (Bring-A-Passenger) ride. However, the best places for that in our area are all blazing away with 100-foot flames – or at least threatened with the possibility of 100-foot flames… or the traffic is unusually heavy

So – we will ease back into things with another Skilz Drill. This is appropriate; the next Overnight (coming up mid-month, either September or October) will be a RawHyde class designed especially for VCDS riders and patrons of BMW Motorcycles of Ventura County.

As requested by the DSS01 participants, DSS02 will be a review of DSS01, with the addition of an introduction to lofting the front tire. For a more detailed description of what will be covered, check out the DSS 01 Intro. Since this is in fact a review of DSS01, you might want to peruse the related posts as well; the blog ARCHIVE can be accessed via the left sidebar (Click the triangles to see contents of related drop-down menus).

I have been contacted in the past by several novice-level riders who would like to participate in these rides, but are concerned about joining this late in the series. Consider this:

The DSS and BAP rides provide excellent opportunities for new riders to test the waters: The rides are relatively short, on easier terrain. The DSS rides are designed specifically to help riders build valuable basic handling skills. This ride, for instance, will take place on the same terrain as our very first ride, DSR01. Chitchat over coffee in the morning, and over lunch in the afternoon, play a major role. If you would like to sign on for this ride, Contact ride leader Laine MacTague.

Dan “Lunchtime!” Taylor practices skidding his DRZ on loose terrain. DSS 01.

The BAP ride sounds great - when my better half gets upset I'm going riding it's not that she wants me to stay home with her, but because she can't sit on the back. I'm a lucky man I know. Of course, she doesn't know how badly I need those skillz drillz . . .

Don said something similar on the phone the other day. If I keep hearing that, I may have to hunt down another spot for a BAP ride, rather than wait for the Zaca Fire to burn out!

Huzzah! Another best-laid plan "gang agley" yet survived all the same.
