[DSR 11 is pushed back to February 23rd. This ride is REPLACING DSR 11 as previously scheduled on the 9th.]
Fire and snow are keeping us from the mountains, so we will head for the plains instead. Feel free to bring a passenger for this introduction to the Carrizo Plain, a 180,000-acre national monument in, from a GS point of view, our own backyard.
There is a lot to see and do here – and almost all of the roads are unpaved. After a refuel in Maricopa, we will tour some of the easier terrain, circumnavigate Soda lake, and stop in at the Education Center. If you are into animal life, bring your binoculars; The Carrizo boasts a growing antelope population, and I’ve heard rumours of Elk introduction to the area. Sandhill Cranes are one of a host of bird species known to winter on Soda Lake and other nearby water bodies. For more info on the Carrizo Plain, start HERE.
This ride will be limited to 14 bikes. So email soon, and email often!
