Here, the rider starts his run by pulling the bars back & forth to establish balance. Later, he is almost seated, and as the bike encounters obstacles, he again attempts to control the bike by steering with the bars, with the result that he begins to lose balance. He responds by sitting down quickly, which eliminates the possibility of using body movement to guide the bike. He then rides up on the edge of the trail in a slightly scary way, both feet off the pegs.
In this video, the rider starts off shifting body weight (and bike) side to side to establish balance. He continues to do this as the trail gets rough. You can also hear continual modulation of clutch and throttle, yet he maintains a steady speed. The result is a much smoother, steadier climb over some rough terrain, with baggage.
Again, our goal for this day is to increase our ability to direct the bike and maintain balance using tools other than the handlebars. Here is our Outline for the day:
