MOJAVE NATIONAL PRESERVE:
THE MOJAVE ROAD
THE MOJAVE ROAD
What . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Dualsport Overnight, 3 days
When . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Meet Friday, 28 March, 7:30 AM
Where . . . . . Meet @ BMW Motorcycles of Ventura County
Contact . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Laine MacTague
Nipton is booked, and very little else in the area appeals: It's hard to get behind a seedy $40 room when you can toss down a sleeping bag anywhere you want about 5 miles away, and expect a starry ceiling, fresher air, and no traffic noise.
The plan is to camp as simply as possible, bringing as little gear as possible. I intend to bring little more than my usual day ride gear, a sleeping bag, and a pad. I won't bring a tent unless rain threatens. We will be eating breakfast and dinner at restaurants, and packing our own snacks and lunch.
There is also the possibility that we will reach Barstow early on Sunday, or even -- if we have simply no adventures whatsoever -- late on Saturday. That would leave us with only one evening on the sand.
The terrain being what it is, and the length being borderline one-day riding, I stress again the value of packing light. the lighter we go, the easier it will be to handle tricky terrain. More on all this (including more packing ideas) in the upcoming Orientation.
