DS RIDE 09: INTRODUCTION
Please notify your next of kin before signing on for this ride. You are doomed.
We have reached that portion of the first stage of the Series into which only the slightly cracked will continue. As it happens, there is one more portion after this one – but that is a story for another time.
DSR 09 will pit you against sandy whoop-de-doos, narrow – look, we are getting very close to dreaded Challenge Number Nine as listed on the VENTURA COUNTY DUAL SPORT RIDE SERIES MASTER PLAN (above). Furthermore, you may need a little help just getting your boxer onto the trail:
Don Gordon came with me on the research ride for this one – so there would be someone around to bury me if I didn’t make it. Here is a smattering of what’s in store:
There is even some sandy riverbed riding available in the last half of the ride. Those of us who come back at all will be out all day.
Having said all that; there are easier unpaved sections included in the ride, as well as go-arounds for each section of trail: Sane human beings who chose the reasonably safe go-around options will receive sufficient verbal / written directions to enable them to meet the rest of the group beyond the most difficult sections – likely showing up well ahead of them and in better shape. So feel free to join up, even if just to watch the carnage.
Participant numbers are limited; make early contact with the ride leader if interested in joining the ride.
